Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

I've got my thirty-year-old mug from the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary. Thirty. Years. Let that sink in.

Homeschool news  . . . we did our best to stay on track with schoolwork this week, but I know Algebra got pushed aside again. If there was a magic wand I could wave that would change the attitude about that one subject, I would be all over that! The good news is that all the other courses are going well. Kennady is doing very well in French, although she is starting to stress about how French II will go next year, since her best friend that's in the current class is graduating so won't be around for French II. She's done great work for her last couple of essays in Writing class! History is on track, and of course she's doing fantastic with all her music-related coursework. She and I have both been brushing up our keyboarding skills recently with a typing instruction course we're reviewing.

Other news . . . It was very cold on Saturday evening, but we kept warm for part of the time by hanging out with friends for a huge bonfire!

On Sunday morning, our family was the entire worship team, and it was a new challenge because we had to find and set up the equipment and instruments on the new platform, which wasn't completed yet. It wasn't hard, but took longer than we'd expected. It's pretty exciting to see how the renovations are coming along in the church though!

Some true winter weather came our way starting last weekend. A mix of snow and freezing rain began on Sunday morning, but thankfully wasn't so bad as to keep us from our annual SuperBowl get-together with friends. That would be the one NFL game I watch all year! We had a good time, as always, even though our little crowd was even smaller than usual.

This week we've tried to keep to our regular routines as much as possible, but there was snow and freezing rain and the resulting sketchy road conditions to work around on several occasions. Our choir rehearsals and Civil Air Patrol happened as planned on Tuesday evening, but Wednesday activities were all cancelled. Then on Thursday we were back to something close to normal again. I was pleasantly surprised when we were still able to have co-op classes!

Today I worked a half-day, but will be working in the evening; and Landon and Kennady will be headed to winter retreat with the church youth group.

What's Coming Up . . . These are the reviews we are currently working on for the Homeschool Review Crew:

We're delighted to be reviewing the latest audio drama from Heirloom Audio Productions. Watch for more about Wulf the Saxon during the week of February 19th.

Wulf the Saxon

That same week we'll be sharing our review of UltraKey Online from Bytes of Learning.

During the week of February 26th, we'll review the new online video and study website, Drive Thru History Adventures

Kennady has been creating some of her artwork using Magic Stix Washable Markers from The Pencil Grip, Inc. and we'll be reviewing those during the week of March 5th.

And finally (for now!), I just received a DVD from Parenting Made Practical. I'll bring you my review of Dating, Courting & Choosing a Mate . . . What Works? during the week of March 12th.

I recommend . . . the Valentine's Resources Round-up at the Homeschool Review Crew blog. Crew members share lots of ideas and resources related to Valentine's Day, and there's also a link-up for all things homeschool-related that you can join in. Look for my Valentine's Day history post Sweets and Treats for Valentine's Day there too!

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

A parting shot . . . a couple of shots of the little bit of winter wonderland in our yard.

We got a snow and ice storm this week too and our roads are still quite slick. Luckily we've been staying pretty close to home this week and I only had to brave the roads twice to get to the store.

Winter bonfires are the best! Making memories!

We haven't had much for winter weather; it all keeps missing us. Except of course this weekend when we were actually out on a Saturday evening for a church trivia night. We drove home in the sleet, but the roads were good by morning.

Hope your weekend went well!
